The Unity Server app is a lightweight app that runs in the background of your Mac. The Unity preferences allow you to configure each of your users and what permissions they have for each channel. This is also where you configure the optional features like camera tally and audio inputs and outputs. Click here to learn more about Unity features.

Unity I/O
Unity Tally allows you to display tally information from your video mixer directly on the display of your Unity stations. Whether you’re using a Ross Video, Grass Valley, Sony or Blackmagic Atem video mixer, you can interface it with our Unity Server. Supports both Preview and Program tally.(Unity Tally is an in-app purchase.)
Unity Add-Ons
Unity I/O allows you to pass audio out of a Unity Server into a hard-wired com system like those from Clear Com or RTS. The audio from those systems can be passed back into the Unity Server, allowing you to use Unity as a wireless system in addition to your existing wired com system. Requires an audio interface (USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, etc.).
(Unity I/O is an in-app purchase.)
Since Unity is a software-based intercom system, you can add additional functionality as the need arises. Some of these add-ons are software upgrades that add features like Tally or additional users while others are physical upgrades like headsets or audio interfaces for using Unity with a hardware intercom system.

Additional Users
Unity is not limited to a particular headset but we have done the work for you and found the very best. Unity headsets are offered in both single and dual-sided versions and offer excellent noise rejection, durable construction, and are perfectly impedence-matched for use with iPhones and iPod Touches.

With any Unity system you can create as many users as you wish but you can only enable a specific number at a time. The base Unity system allows you to enable up to three simultaneous users. Additional users can be enabled through an in-app purchase up to a total of 58 simultaneous users. Please contact us for options if you need additional users.
(Additional Unity Users are an in-app purchase.)
What are the system requirements?Unity is designed as a very lightweight application. The Unity Server will run on any Mac with OS X 10.8 or newer. The Unity iOS app will run on any iOS 6 and newer device.
Is there an Android Unity app?Currently, Unity is for iOS only. Keep watching this space though as there are plans to bring Unity to Android, Mac OS, and Windows so that you can use almost any computer or device as a Unity station.
What else can I use Unity for?Unity has many uses. You could wall-mount iPads in your childcare rooms and use Unity as an intercom system between those rooms and a main office. A security team could communicate with each other using Unity. Because Unity works over cellular networks, you could even use Unity as a dispatch system so a cental office can communicate to a fleet of trucks out in the field. Since you have up to six channels to use, you can even do all of the above at the same time on a single Unity system without the added expense of multiple kinds of communication systems.
Is there an Android Unity app?Unity can support up to a maximum of 58 simultaneous users because of the way the in-app purchases work through the App Store. The Unity Server can support far more users than 58 though. If you need a larger systems, please contact us for assistance in growing your system.
Unity FAQs
What kind of network do I need to make Unity work?Unity transmits data over the network using UDP. By default, almost any network should work just fine with Unity. There are some limitations to this but they are very specific and are usually intentional limitations imposed by network administrators. While we recommend hard-wiring your Unity Server to the network, it isn’t necessary. In fact, since an internet connection isn’t required, you can use Unity for on-location shoots where all you have is a laptop creating an ad-hoc network!
My Unity devices can’t find the Unity Server.Unity uses Bonjour for automatic discovery. If your network is configured in such a way that Bonjour traffic isn’t allowed you can manually configure Unity to connect directly to the server. All you need is the IP address and port number of the Unity Server computer for each of your devices to connect without using Bonjour.
Does Unity work over the cellular network?Unity DOES work over a cellular network! You will have to know the external IP address of your Unity Server computer and configure your Unity devices to connect manually. Once you do this, Unity will operate just like if you were standing next the the server on the same network. This allows your users to be offsite and still stay connected to everyone else on the Unity system.
